Science of Reading • SK–5 • Powered by Lexia®
Reading is complex set of skills that each child builds individually, but schools teach to the group. Which skills need work? Report cards don't really say.
Yet reading is such a critical life skill, and there's a window. You really want to be sure. With Radical + Lexia, you will be.
3.7 million kids learned with Lexia last year · Works for over 90% of students · Backed by 20 gold-standard studies.
SK–3 is the critical window
Speaking is natural, but reading is a complex code that must be neurologically wired with no gaps so the code is 100% complete.
The critical window for wiring the reading brain is SK to 3. Beyond grade 3, it becomes a different and harder problem.
60% of kids never master reading*. The system leaves too many gaps for too many kids, even the smartest ones.
*Defined as NAEP Proficient
Classrooms teach the basics. But for most kids, reading mastery takes 1:1 adaptive, systematic learning and practice beyond the classroom.
The Research-Proven tool
Lexia picks up where group instruction leaves off.
Developed through Johns Hopkins and Boston Children’s Hospital, Lexia is the world’s leading program built on the Science of Reading. It works with each child individually, on exactly what they need next, at exactly their own pace, while we monitor the data so they never get stuck or off track. Parents get a detailed monthly report that can be shared with teachers.
Lexia helped 3.7 million kids in schools just last year. Now it can help your child, right in your own living room, under the watchful expert guidance of Radical Reading.

You shouldn’t have to guess how their reading is really going.
With Lexia + Radical, you don’t.
Your child builds skills in Lexia while a Radical expert watches their data, ready to step in the moment something slips. Nothing moves on until it’s locked in, so you go from hoping they’re on track, to knowing they are.

Lark helped change Ontario’s classrooms. Now she’s here for you.
Radical's Director of Education, Lark Barker, helped shape Ontario's Right to Read movement — years spent fighting for early reading screening and a science-based curriculum. Those changes are real, but they are not enough. The system still has very limited capacity to deliver beyond the basics. Radical is how she completes that work: one child at a time, with Lexia in your living room.

What we want for every child
Strong early reading lifts the trajectory of a life. A child who reads with ease reads more. And every book lifts the next. Curiosity and confidence grows, subjects open up, and the slope of their whole education tilts upward. Reading that never quite clicks quietly narrows their horizon. Reading mastery cracks it wide open, giving them the freedom to claim their world.
