Grades 3-5 • Fluency

These are the years
reading takes off.
We make sure it does.

From grade 4 on, every subject arrives through dense text. Lexia is proven in 20,000 schools to build the speed and comprehension that turn reading into the engine. Twenty minutes a day, placed by level, not by grade.

They can read — but are they keeping up, or quietly slipping?

Reading fine now and being ready for what's coming are two different things.

Maybe they finish a chapter book and you wonder how much actually landed — and the books are about to get much longer. Or maybe you've watched them read slowly, avoid long chapters, finish a page without holding it. Either way: reading is a set of skills that can be measured and built, at any age. And the first month of Lexia tells us exactly where they are.

If reading is a daily struggle — not just slow, but hard — jumping into Lexia may not be the right next step. Start with a conversation

FASTER · DEEPER · STRONGER

Grade 3–5 is when they lock it in.

From grade 4 on, reading has to carry every subject. Decoding isn't enough, reading has to be fluid so that the words aren't the work. And if something never fully locked in earlier, this is where it gets rebuilt.

Advanced decoding

Roots, prefixes and multisyllable words — the code behind big vocabulary.

Fluency and speed

Fast enough that the brain is free for meaning. Automaticity.

Comprehension and stamina

Textbooks and novels held onto, not just got through.

Their first month of Lexia tells us exactly what needs work.

Which reader is yours?

Lexia meets your child where they are, and builds from there.

Flying ahead

Hungry for more

Finishes early, wants thicker books, bored by the reading log.

Keeping Up

Doing fine — is that enough?

Reading is okay, but the texts are about to get harder and you want mastery, not OK.

Working too hard

Reading is still hard work

Reads slowly, avoids longer books, finishes a page without holding onto it.

From keeping up to hungry for more

Go from avoiding the thick book to devouring it.

How your child's reading changes, before and after.
Before After
Reads slowly; sounds out big words Reads fluently; big words decode on sight
Avoids long or difficult texts Takes on textbooks and novels with confidence
Finishes a page, doesn't retain it Reads to understand — and remembers
A few gaps quietly widening Gaps closed; the foundation solid for what's next

Grades 3–5 : The lifetime turning point

When reading takes off. Or quietly stalls.

You want reading to stop being the work, and start being the engine.

Get fluency and comprehension solid here and reading pulls every other subject forward — strong readers read more, learn faster, keep pulling ahead. Leave gaps sitting and the same force works in reverse. Grades 3–5 is the last best window for reading mastery.

What makes Radical unique

We don’t hope for progress. We engineer it.

You shouldn't have to guess how their reading is really going. With Lexia + Radical, you don't.

The Method

Proven by science

No reading program is more scientifically studied than Lexia Core5.

The Goal

Mastery, not average

Your child doesn't move on until a skill is locked in.

Data + Experts

Guidance by data

A real reading expert watching every detail of how your child is progressing.

“We complete what the classroom starts.”

Get your Lexia time

About 20 min a session, 4-5 times per week, plus additional analog activities to lock in learning.

Monitor and Report

We watch carefully to keep things on track. And our detailed monthly reports show exactly which skills your child has mastered.

FAQs

Will my older child find this babyish?

No. Lexia places by level and presents age-appropriate material. A grade-5 reader rebuilding an earlier skill works with grade-appropriate content, not picture-book exercises.

What happens if my child gets stuck?

We won’t let that happen. If the data shows a wobble, we’ll reach out to arrange a targeted 1:1 Radical Boost to get momentum back.

I worry about more screen time

YouTube is "digital candy"; Lexia is digital nutrition to activate their brain, not sedate it. It is 15 minutes of high-focus brain training, then back to being an analog kid. BTW, the program also includes analog activities to reinforce their digital learning

Is this one more thing to supervise?

Twenty minutes your child runs themselves. You're not teaching — we handle the expert work and send you the progress.

Why not just license Lexia myself?

Only Ed organizations can license Lexia directly. There's good reason for this. Lexia requires professional supervision, analysis and guidance. This is what makes it much more effective and accountable than traditional tutoring.

Can we switch between Core and Clinical?

Anytime. We'll recommend the level the data supports; the choice is always yours.
